(Honolulu)– Honolulu Community College’s Automotive Technology Program was recently reaccredited by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation, Inc. (NATEF). The results of the on-site evaluation indicated that the program continues to meet the requirements for the NATEF Master Automobile Service Technology Accreditation – the highest level of achievement recognized by NATEF.
NATEF commended Honolulu CC for maintaining program standards, and continuing to meet the industry’s requirements. With the growth in the automotive industry this certification makes Honolulu’s high quality program more valuable than ever.
“Obtaining a NATEF recertification for the Master Automobile Service level is a great accomplishment for Honolulu CC. It identifies Honolulu as having an automotive program that strives for excellence,” shares Automotive Instructor, Warren Takata.
Students of this program will receive a quality automotive education that will increase their chances of passing the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) examination for automotive licensure. Furthermore, NATEF training prepares graduates to become part of a pool of highly trained entry-level technicians needed to service the current Hawai‘i automotive market.
Along with the Master Automobile recertification, Honolulu CC received the new Integrated Academics certification in the areas of Mathematics, Science and Language Arts. Students gain academic knowledge that is relatable to automotive concepts. This integration provides students with the skills needed to be successful in their major, profession and life.
The program has maintained its NATEF certification since 1993, undergoing a review every five years. It is certified in all eight ASE areas: engine repair, automatic transmission and transaxle, manual drive train and axles, suspension and steering, brakes, electrical/electronics systems, heating and air conditioning, and engine performance.
