(KAILUA) – The popular and free monthly “Kanikapila in Kailua” Hawaiian music series will continue this month with a featured performance by storyteller and musician Keikilani Lindsey on Saturday, April 18. The Kanikapila in Kailua series is sponsored by the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation and A&B Properties, Inc.
“This great Hawaiian music series has solidified Kailua and the Windward side as the place to go for real Hawaiian music performed by some of the state’s greatest Hawaiian musicians,” said Terry George, Harold K.L. Castle Foundation CEO and president. “A terrific example of this is our April 18 performance by Keikilani Lindsey, one of Hawaii’s favorite storytellers and musicians. He spreads the Aloha spirit through his music and stories.”
Born and raised on Kona, Big Island, Keikilani Lindsey hails from five generations of Hawaiian storytellers and musicians driven to share their love of the ‘aina through their music. With his roots as a practicing hula student, Lindsey began composing music with a friend and eventually formed Meleuhane, a father-and-son duo with his eldest son Leokani as the lead guitarist. The band released its self-titled debut album “Meleuhane” in 2014, featuring original songs sung almost entirely in traditional ʻolelo (Hawaiian language). Lindsey and his son currently are working on their next album “Songs of the Spirit.”
The popular music series showcases many talented artists like Keikilani Lindsey and continues to welcome many more to Oahu’s Windward side. In the past months, Kanikapila in Kailua has featured star performers such as wedding singing duo Ben Vegas and Maila Gibson in January, Kuana Torres Kahele in February and Sean Naʻauao in March.
“The Kanikapila in Kailua music series is off to a great start in 2015,” said Jon Moyer, Director, Asset Management for A&B Properties, Inc. “The performances by Kuana Torres and Sean Na’auao were outstanding. Looking ahead we’re excited about the next series of musicians who will be participating, kicking off with Keikilani Lindsey on April 18th. This is a great opportunity for the community to come out and enjoy the music in an outdoor setting, and we are proud to be a part of these special events”.
