(Maui)- The County of Maui Civil Defense Agency would like the public’s assistance in tracking any property damage resulting from Tropical Storm Darby over the weekend.
Residents can fill out an online damage assessment form that can be found at www.mauicounty.gov/civildefense. Be advised that this assessment is not a claim form, and that you will have to fill out separate documents with your insurance carrier.
Also, at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2016, Mayor Alan Arakawa officially terminated his emergency proclamation issued Friday, July 22, 2016, thus ending the emergency period within Maui County. While active the emergency proclamation allowed county departments to react quickly to storm damage and other emergencies by suspending normal county protocol.
“Darby is over and it appears Maui County has dodged another bullet,” said Mayor Arakawa. “I am proud of the way our civil defense and county management handled the storm this weekend and would like to congratulate the public for doing their part and staying out of harm’s way. The roads were clear for most of the weekend and people seemed to be staying indoors and monitoring things from home, which is exactly what they were supposed to be doing.”
“Civil Defense continues to monitor the weather for future storms,” said Emergency Operations Manager Andrea Finkelstein. “As a reminder to the public we are still in the middle of Hurricane Season until November 30, so we all need to stay informed and be prepared.”
