(LĪHU’E) – County officials announced that free rides will be offered on all of The Kaua‘i Bus routes during Tropic Care, which will take place from June 12 to June 21.
Since June 12 is a county and state holiday, however, the frequency of the buses will be very limited on that day.
“We are pleased to partner once again with the Kaua‘i District Health Office and the Department of Defense Reserve Affairs on Tropic Care. It’s a tremendous opportunity for the public to obtain health care services at no cost to them,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. “During Tropic Care, the county is offering free bus service. I encourage the public to take advantage of this opportunity as well. Hopefully, they will see the benefits of public transportation and help us move towards becoming a more sustainable community.”
Tropic Care will be offering physical examinations, physical therapy, eye exams, and eyeglasses (single focus lenses only). In addition, dental exams and cleanings, tooth extractions and fillings will be provided.
The services will be available at the following clinic sites: ‘Ele‘ele Elementary School; Kaua‘i Community College; and Kapa‘a Middle School. The clinics will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., except on Sunday, June 18 and Wednesday, June 21. On those days, they will close at 1 p.m.
Mobile clinics will be open at Kīlauea Elementary School from June 12 to June 15, and at the Easter Seals’ Waimea facility from June 17 to June 21.
Approximately 325 reservists will be coming to the island for Tropic Care. The free health care services they provide will also result in them getting the training they need to be ready for rapid deployment.
