(Honolulu) — Hawai‘i Pacific University’s (HPU) Student Government Association will be hosting their first “It Starts with Us” fair in support of Sexual Assault Awareness Month on Friday, April 13, 2018.
The event, held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.at Aloha Tower Marketplace is sponsored by the Kapiolani Sex Abuse Treatment Center, iHeartRadio, Pepsi, KUBT “93.9 The Beat”, and Wounded Warrior Project.
The event will also feature Walk-A-Mile in Her Shoes®which begins at 11:30 a.m.in front of Aloha Tower, down Fort Street mall to Beretania and back to Aloha Tower. The International Men’s March asks participants to walk a mile in high heels in advocacy to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence.
Featured speakers include actress Melanie Kohler, Honolulu Chief of Police Susan Ballard, Board Member of Ho‘ola Na Pua Kaleo Schneider and Navy Commander of Pacific Fleet Capt. Roy Nafarrete.
There will also be informational booths from local sexual violence prevention groups and organizations during the entire event.
Live performances by the HPU International Vocal Ensemble and HPU’s #MeToo monologues, will take place on the Pier 9 stage.
This event is open to the military, public and members of the HPU community.
