(LĪHU‘E) — Kaua‘i police served hundreds of pancake breakfasts to keiki during Saturday’s inaugural “Police, Pastors and Pancakes” drive-thru event at Puakea Golf Course.
They were joined by volunteers from New Hope Līhu‘e, Hawai‘i National Guard, Puakea Golf Course and Grove Farm.
“We had such an amazing response today. All of the volunteers worked so hard and really delivered because we had vehicles wrapped all the way around the parking lot before we even opened,” said Chief of Police Todd G. Raybuck.
Law enforcement officers not only passed out breakfasts, which included pancakes, sausages and bottled water, they donated children’s masks as well.
“We know this pandemic has been challenging for our families and that’s why we partnered alongside our faith-based community to host this event, which we plan to hold for at least another two or three Saturdays,” said Raybuck.
During the first several weeks of the COVID-19 crisis, the Kaua‘i Police Department focused on compliance and enforcement efforts. While the department will continue these efforts to protect public health and public safety, more resources will now pivot toward assisting the community in other areas of need.
“I want to thank all of the volunteers who showed up to help today, including Pastor John Cabello. We couldn’t have done this without you,” said Raybuck. “I also want to thank the Kaua‘i community for your support and understanding during these past several weeks. We’re all in this together; we’ll do this together.”
The next “Police, Pastors and Pancakes” will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on May 2 at Puakea Golf Course in Līhu‘e.
