(Oahu)– HONOLULU– The City and County of Honolulu Department of Design and Construction will begin an upcoming road rehabilitation project on Kamehameha Highway from Ha‘ikū Rd to Likelike Highway/Kāne‘ohe Bay Drive.
Construction is scheduled to begin on February 2nd, 2026, and is expected to last approximately 18 months. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (excluding holidays).
This project includes the reconstruction of the asphalt roadway, concrete sidewalks, concrete curbs and gutters, concrete ramps, bus pads, street lighting, pushbuttons, traffic signals, vehicle detector loops, adjustment of manhole covers and utility boxes, pavement striping, and signage.

Construction will not occur throughout the entire project area at once. Work will be completed in smaller phases to help minimize impacts and maintain traffic flow as much as possible. The contractor is responsible for coordinating and managing local area traffic access for residents and businesses, including deliveries, trash collection, and emergency services.
“No Parking” signs will be posted along affected roadways one week prior to the start of work to notify the public of upcoming construction areas. Motorists are asked to observe the dates and times listed on posted signage. Vehicles parked in restricted areas will be towed at the owner’s expense. The public should anticipate detours, lane closures, and possible road closures, and allow extra travel time when traveling through the area. Drivers are reminded to observe all traffic control devices, posted signs, and the directions of Special Duty Police Officers.
Please note that newly placed asphalt is hot, black, and tacky. Walking or driving on uncured pavement may result in serious burns or tracking damage to driveways and sidewalks. For public safety, the contractor may temporarily restrict access through hazardous construction areas during work hours.
Every effort will be made to complete this essential work as efficiently as possible and with minimal inconvenience to the community. The City and County of Honolulu appreciates the public’s patience, cooperation, and support as we work to improve roadway conditions.
