(Maui)– The County of Maui Department of Housing and Human Concerns, Office on Aging announced that it will sponsor “Better Choices…Better Health” a healthy living six-class workshop series beginning Wednesday, August 22.
This workshop will provide practical information, tools and support to people of all ages who wish to incorporate healthier habits into their lives, and help those living with chronic conditions to better manage their health.
The workshop will consist of a series of six classes that focus on learning and implementing practical skills to stay healthy and control symptoms through relaxation, nutrition, improved communication skills, medication management, exercise and more. Participants develop achievable “action plans” that lead to positive changes and greater confidence.
The workshop series will run on six consecutive Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., from August 22 to September 26 at Kaunoa Senior Center Room 101 located at 401 Alakapa Place, Paia, HI 96779.
Participants will receive “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions, 3rd Edition,” and an audio relaxation CD entitled “Time for Healing.”
The cost for the six-session workshop is $10 for those 60 and older, and $35 for those under 60. Scholarships are available for anyone under 60 experiencing financial hardship.
Advance registration is required as space is limited to 14 participants per class. Small interactive classes focus on building skills, sharing experiences and developing support.
Transportation may be available. Caregivers are encouraged to attend.
