(Maui)–On Wednesday night, Mayor Alan Arakawa presented his State of the County address to State and County officials, and citizens of the County of Maui. The event was televised live on Akaku Community Television and streamed live on the Internet from the H.P. Baldwin High School Auditorium.
Arakawa highlighted many positive efforts from the Maui County designed to better serve residents and said that Maui’s future is very bright. “While it is not the best that it has ever been, it is definitely much better than it was a few years ago. But don’t take my word for it,” Arakawa said. “There are plenty of other people out there saying the same thing. Talk to the economists who say that Maui County’s economy is the strongest among the neighbor islands.
Ask the leaders of our visitor industry about our tourism numbers,” he added.
Another important highlight was the fact that Mayor Arakawa revealed the county is looking to expand the total number of bus shelters. “We have eight shelters built now, and plan on putting up a total of 40 shelters county-wide. This sounds like a small thing but not if you have ever had to stand in the hot sun while waiting for the bus.”
