(Kauai)–The Department of Water (DOW) has scheduled a water outage in Waimea today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The shutdown will allow the DOW to replace an aging fire hydrant.
During the shutdown, water service in parts of Waimea Valley will not be available.
The areas that will have no water service are those along the Menehune Road and Alawai Road junction and all the way into Waimea Valley, including: Pulē; Ki‘i; Gay (Olioli); and Kalo roads and Menehune Place.
A detailed map of all affected streets can be viewed online at www.kauaiwater.org.
During the outage, affected customers should ensure that their water heaters do not empty and store enough water to meet their needs.
DOW will provide a portable water tank near the junction of Alawai and Menehune roads for customers affected by the shutdown. Customers will need to bring their own water containers.
Residents are asked to notify their family, friends and neighbors that will be affected by the outage.
The Department of Water apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks affected customers for their patience and cooperation in preparing for the water outage as improvements to aging infrastructure continue.
The hydrant replacement is part of Water Plan 2020, DOW’s comprehensive long range plan to replace or repair aging infrastructure so customers can continue to be provided with safe and affordable water.
Affected customers that have listed phone numbers or have registered for the county’s Blackboard Connect CTY notification service will be contacted by the Connect CTY service about the outage.
In addition, DOW personnel are going door-to-door notifying area residents about the outage.
Those who have not yet signed up for the free notification service and would like to do so should log onto the county Website at www.kauai.gov or call the Kaua‘i Civil Defense Agency at 241-1800.
