(Kauai)- The Kaua’i Police Department will take part in celebrating National Police Week with several public events from Monday, May 13 through Friday, May 17.
Police Week is our opportunity to pay tribute to law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the line of duty, and to honor their loved ones, stated Kaua’i Police Chief Darryl Perry. It is also a time that we encourage the public to get to know the police department and our officers by participating in Police Week activities.
The week-long festivities begin with a public memorial service to honor those officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The service will start at 9 a.m. at the breezeway of Ka Hale Makai o Kauai, KPD headquarters.
On Tuesday at 8:30 a.m., Mayor Bernard P. Carvalho, Jr. will hold a proclamation ceremony at the Lîhu’e Civic Center, Moikeha courtyard. The Kaua’i County Council will then host its recognition ceremony on Wednesday, May 15 at 8:45 a.m. at the Historic County Buildings Council Chambers.
The Kaua’i Police Department will close Police Week with an open house of its headquarters on Friday, May 17. Tours of the station will start every hour on the hour from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. During the open house, the public is also invited to tour the departments Incident Command Vehicle. Reservations are not required.
Please call Sgt. Rod Green at 241-1699 if you would like to request an ASL Interpreter, materials in an alternate format, or other auxiliary aid support prior to the event.
National Police Week was created in 1962 by a Congressional Joint Resolution that was signed by President John F. Kennedy proclaiming May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day in remembrance of police officers who died in the line of duty.
