(Kaneohe)– Windward Community College announces the 2nd Annual Palikū Arts Festival, a unique interactive arts experience, set for March 31, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in and around the grounds of Palikū Theatre on the Windward Community College campus in Kaneohe. Last year’s Festival was hugely successful, attracting approximately 4,000 people!
A family friendly event, the Palikū Arts Festival will include fun hands-on opportunities to get involved in art, music, literature, theatre and movement. This event is free to the public and open to all ages. Those attending are encouraged to come in costume or festive clothing.
The festival’s emphasis is on “doing” art, not just seeing it. Windward CC art professors, instructors and their students will be on hand with supplies and assistance to those who want to express their creativity in a variety of ways-from painting, drawing, and sculpting to moving, acting or making music, prints, masks, poetry and prose. Community groups such as the Honolulu Printmakers will also be leading hands-on activities.
Or, attendees can observe art at work with demonstrations in art studios, or check out the art exhibition in Gallery ‘Iolani.
Palikū Theatre will feature a free performance of “How I Became a Pirate,” a musical version of the popular children’s book.
A variety of musical acts will perform, including The Royal Hawaiian Band, The Army National Guard Band, The Robert Joyce Experience, and Alice Neel featuring Dieter Runge.
The Imaginarium will be showing a family friendly show. The shows at Hōkūlani Imaginarium will have a nominal fee.
Recognized Windward CC arts professors and instructors who will be participating in the festival include Snowden Hodges (drawing and painting), Mark Hamasaki (photography), Ron Loo (guitar and ukulele), Paul Nash (ceramics), Norm Graffam (drawing and painting), Bryce Meyers (sculpture), Rob Molyneux (printmaking), Janine Oshiro (poetry), Sojin Kimura (music), Aaron Sala (music), and Tara Severns (percussion).
