(Maui)– The Alexander & Baldwin Foundation has made a substantial donation to Maui County’s Nutrition Program for senior citizens. The $20,000 contribution was presented to Department of Housing & Human Concerns director Jo-Ann Ridao by HC&S General Manager Rick Volner Jr. during a cultural celebration event, Kumiai Day, at Kaunoa Senior Center in Spreckelsville. The event was reminiscent of early sugar plantation days and was co-sponsored by HC&S.
For the past 35 years, A&B Foundation’s financial support has helped Kaunoa’s Congregate Nutrition program provide nutritious meals at 17 satellite centers throughout Maui County. Special activities and events for persons over 60 years of age are also supported by this grant.
The A&B Foundation has been funded by the business activities of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. and its subsidiaries. On Maui, these subsidiaries includes Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company (HC&S), East Maui Irrigation Company (EMI), Kahului Trucking & Storage, Inc. (KT&S), A&B Properties, Inc., and Matson Navigation Company.
Kaunoa Senior Services is a division of the County of Maui’s Department of Housing and Human Concerns.
