(Honolulu)—Mayor Peter Carlisle announced today that the City has installed six electric vehicle charging stations for public use in parking facilities at the Neal Blaisdell Center, Chinatown Gateway Plaza, Civic Center, Hale Pauahi, Honolulu Zoo, and Smith-Beretania Parking Structure.
“Electric vehicles are an important part of our clean and sustainable energy future,”Carlisle said. “These stations will make it easier for people to start using electric vehicles and help decrease our dependence on fossil fuels.”
The charging stations use the ChargePoint network (www.chargepoint.com), which allows users to hold a ChargePoint card over the reader symbol on the charging stations to start and stop charging. EV drivers can also call a number printed on the front of the stations for assistance. The City is not currently charging for use of the stations, so the card serves only as a tool to lock and unlock a charging station’s connector.
The Hawaii Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism awarded the City $400,000 through its Hawaii EV Ready Grant to help support electric vehicles infrastructure development.
