(Honolulu)– To celebrate Easter, Kaiser Permanente Hawaii’s Moanalua Medical Center provided its youngest patients and their families the opportunity to create some artistic treats. Kaiser Permanente’s Food and Nutrition Services and Child Life Services provided all the materials and the patients provided the talent to decorate Easter cookies. It’s fun for the keiki and helps brighten the day of patients and staff in the pediatric unit.
“For children and adolescents, in particular, as well as their families, hospitalization can be a frightening experience,” said Angelita Juan with Kaiser Permanente’s Child Life Services. “Age-appropriate activities, such as cookie decorating, provide our young patients and their families with an opportunity to have fun together and distract from what can be a stressful, scary and often times boring hospital stay. Coupled with the recent completion of renovations to the hospital, our goal is to provide a bright, healthy and safe environment that is conducive to healing.”
Kaiser Permanente’s Child Life Services division works tirelessly to ensure that patients in the pediatric unit feel at home during their hospital stay. Normalizing the hospital experience by providing age-appropriate activities such as cookie decorating is one of the many ways in which Child Life Services creates a comforting and supportive atmosphere for patients and visitors alike. These efforts serve to provide the highest quality of care for patients, both physically and emotionally.
