(Kauai)– County officials are urging real property owners who sustained damages to their real property as a result of the recent flooding to file a claim for remission of taxes on their real property.
To be eligible, the claim must be based on the direct result of flood waters overflowing the banks or walls of a river or stream, not from flooding that may be due to inadequate drainage or areas that are subject to ponding.
Forms are available at the Real Property Assessment office located at the Lîhu’e Civic Center, Kapulç Building, or on the county website,www.kauai.gov.
The deadline to file a claim for disaster relief is June 30, 2012 or within 60 days of the disaster, whichever is later.
