(Kaneohe)– Windward Community College and Piano Instructor So Jin Kimura are pleased to announce the Piano Program Spring Concert on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at Palikū Theatre. The concert is free and open to the public.
The free concert will feature Kimura’s students from Piano 1, 2, 3, and 4 classes playing solo and ensemble pieces. Music will range from simple arrangements of popular tunes, classical music, and Disney. Most of the Piano 1 students have only been playing the piano since January; this will be their first performance at Palikū Theatre.
About WCC Piano Instructor So Jin Kimura
So Jin Kimura is a three-time soloist with the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra and a Morning Music Club Scholarship recipient. She lectures at Windward Community College in Music Appreciation, Music Fundamentals, and Popular Music in America and teaches the Piano, 1, 2, 3, and 4 classes.
Kimura began piano studies at age six. She went on to receive her BMus and MMus in Piano Performance from the University of Hawai’i and an MMus in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Oregon. She studied with Dr. Edward Shipwright and Peter Coraggio at the University of Hawai’i and Dr. Claire Wachter and Dr. Dean Kramer at the University of Oregon. She is currently in the process of completing a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Music Education from Boston University.
Kimura received the prestigious Schroeder Award from the National Piano Playing. She has also participated in master classes with pianists Joseph Gurt, Neil Rutman, Ozan Marsh, and Robert Shannon.
Kimura is also an active accompanist with over 15 years experience. She is a member of the Music Teacher’s National Association, the Hawai’i Piano Teacher’s Association, Honolulu Music Teacher’s Association, and Mu Phi Epsilon. She is a percussionist/pianist with the Royal Hawaiian Band and maintains a piano studio in Honolulu.
