(Ala Moana)– Mayor Kirk Caldwell and the Department of Parks and Recreation outlined guidelines for the use of Ala Moana Regional Park over the July 4th holiday. The City will continue the practice of allowing limited access at Ala Moana Regional Park overnight from July 3rd to July 4th for residents wishing to hold picnic sites.
“Allowing limited access to the park overnight accommodates Oahu residents who want to secure picnic sites for their families and friends on July 4th, while maintaining public safety,” said Mayor Caldwell. “The policy has worked well in recent years and we want to keep the park available for families to enjoy this great American holiday.”
The park is normally closed from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. daily, but per tradition, on July 3rd, 2013 the City will make an exception and allow canopies and up to two people to stay at each site overnight in order to establish picnic sites for the July 4th celebration. Tents, alcoholic beverages, fireworks, and animals are not allowed.
All vehicles must be removed from the park by 10 p.m. on July 3rd. At 4 a.m. on July 4th, vehicles and additional people will be allowed to enter the park.
