(Kaua’i)– Kaua’i Police Chief Darryl Perry, along with the County of Kaua’i Police Commission, presented the department’s Officer of the Month recognition to Officer Darin Irimata at the Police Commission meeting held at the Piikoi Building.
Office Irimata was one of three officers who responded to a robbery at the Kôloa Chevron gas station in early January when four disguised male subjects entered the convenience store and demanded cash from the lone employee.
Officer Irimata’s quick thinking during a witness interview led to the apprehension of one of the suspects within hours of the incident. The three remaining suspects were arrested shortly thereafter for first degree robbery.
In a separate incident, Officer Irimata recognized a female who matched the description of a suspect wanted in connection with a Kôloa jewelry store theft case. Officer Irimata then noticed the woman wearing a piece of jewelry that looked similar to one of the stolen pieces. The female was arrested, and eventually prosecuted, for second degree theft.
In addition to his superior performance in criminal investigations, Officer Irimata issued numerous citations for moving violations and five arrests for Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of an Intoxicant (OVUII).
“For his exemplary observation and investigative skills, along with his dedication to duty, the Patrol Services Bureau is proud to nominate Officer Irimata for this recognition,” stated Assistant Chief of the Patrol Service Bureau Ale Quibilan.
