(Kauai)– The Kaua’i Police Department held a ceremony at the Kaua’i Beach Resort to recognize the promotions and assignments for 16 police officers.
Six officers were promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and 10 officers were promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Kauai Police Chief Darryl Perry and Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr. offered congratulatory remarks at yesterday’s ceremony, as did Council Chair Jay Furfaro, Police Commission Chair Ernest Kanekoa, Jr. and James Rodriguez, Vice Chairman of the Kauai Chapter of the State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers.
It is with great honor that we are recognizing this well-deserving group of fine men and women, who have committed themselves to public service and our close-knit community, said Kaua’i Police Chief Darryl Perry.
The process to become a Sergeant and Lieutenant is a rigorous one that began several months ago. It involves a comprehensive written exam followed by an assessment process to test their knowledge and suitability for the position.
The following officers were promoted to the rank of Lieutenant: Paul Applegate; Randolph Chong Tim, Sr.; Robert Gausepohl; Karen Kapua; Trent Shimabukuro; and Todd Tanaka.
The Sergeants promoted today are as follows: Darla Abbatiello; Christopher Calio; Christopher Jenkins; Elliott Ke; Anthony Morita; Len Nitta; Daniel Oliveira; Jason Overmyer; Mark Ozaki; and Scott Williamson.
The men and women here today will serve as role models for their fellow officers and our keiki, and I am confident in their leadership ability, said Mayor Carvalho. We thank them for making Kaua’i a better place to live.
