(Kailua)– The Harold K.L. Castle Foundation continues its popular music series Kanikapila in Kailua with a performance by six-time Na Hoku Hanohano-award-winning singer Del Beazley on Saturday, July 21.
Kanikapila in Kailua is a monthly program that celebrates the Hawaiian music and culture of Windward Oahu. It is held one Saturday a month from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on the second floor of the parking garage near Whole Foods Market in Kailua Town. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs, grab food from their favorite Kailua eatery, and sit back and relax.
Beazley, also known as “THE BEAZ,” is a songwriter, composer and arranger with strong connections to Hawaiian music. A Makaha native, Beazley learned to play the ‘ukulele at a young age from his grandparents and then learned how to play the guitar and slack key while still in high school. He has played with many well-known Hawaii musicians, including the Makaha Sons of Ni‘ihau, Teresa Bright and Sean Na‘auao. He is also credited for writing the song “Hawaiian Supa Man” for Israel “Bruddah Iz” Kamakawiwo‘ole.
“We are excited to have so many gifted musicians join us for the Kanikapila in Kailua series,” said Terry George, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation. “Del grew up in a musically talented family and has gone on to tour on the West Coast and Japan. We are honored to have him share with the Kailua community the wonderful music of our Islands.”
The Harold K.L. Castle Foundation builds on the strengths of Windward Oahu communities by supporting the region’s rich cultural legacy, its youth and families, and its natural resources through its grantmaking process. The Foundation, together with Kawika Kahiapo, a noted Windward Oahu-based musician, created Kanikapila in Kailua in the spirit of its mission to give back to and enrich the community.
Previous Kanikapila in Kailua performances featured Waipuna, a Na Hoku Hanohano award nominee, and musical group Kaukahi, of which Kahiapo is a part. Below are dates for upcoming performances:
