(HONOLULU) – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Environmental Services (ENV) will temporarily close the Kawailoa Transfer Station at 62-180 Kawailoa Drive in Haleʻiwa on Thursday, March 5, 2026 for the installation of a new crane at the loadout area.
The one-day closure is required to safely complete the installation and replacement of the old crane located next to the public loadout area where residents dispose of refuse. The crane is used to move and compact waste. The replacement will increase operational efficiency and capacity at the facility.
This is the third and final crane being added as part of ENV’s Kapaʻa and Kawailoa Transfer Station Crane Replacement Project. Two cranes were installed at the Kapaʻa Transfer Station in November 2025.
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate transfer stations on March 5. A full list of locations and hours is available at: https://www.honolulu.gov/env/ref/waste-drop-off-locations/
ENV appreciates the public’s patience as these upgrades strengthen long-term service and reliability for the community.
