(Kauai)– A fall exercise program sponsored by Get Fit Kaua’i and the Lîhu’e Business Association in partnership with the county is set to launch on Tuesday, Sept. 11, the twentieth anniversary of Hurricane Iniki.
The aim of Walk and Talk Story with the Mayor is to provide the public with the opportunity to talk story with Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr. and other community leaders, while engaging in a healthy activity.
“Walking offers so many health benefits,” said the mayor. “I encourage everyone to join us for this weekly activity.”
The walk is scheduled every Tuesday through the end of October, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. It begins at the Mo‘ikeha Building (round building) and goes to Ace Hardware and back. The route may vary from week to week.
Featured organizations and agencies will include the following:
- Sept. 11 – Kaua’i Civil Defense, Kaua’i Fire Department, and Kaua’i Police Department
- Sept. 18 – Kaua’i District Health Office
- Sept. 25 – Ho’ola Lahui Hawai’i
- Oct. 2 – Lîhu’e Business Association and Rice Street businesses and agencies
- Oct. 9 – Boys and Girls Club
- Oct. 16 – Kaua’i Chamber of Commerce
- Oct. 23 – Kaua’i school principals
- Oct. 30 – TBA
Anyone who would like to take part in the Walk and Talk Story with the Mayor program is advised to: wear good walking shoes; bring water; apply sunscreen; and obey all traffic signals along the route. Wearing a hat is optional.
A light snack will be provided for participants.
