(Honolulu)–Oahu residents are in for a treat this weekend as legendary R&B group New Edition will perform at the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena starting at 7pm on June 17.
Some of their pop hits include songs like 1983’s “Candy Girl” and 1984’s “Cool It Now” and “Mr. Telephone Man“. The group has said that they will make Oahu their only appearance in the islands for their 30th anniversary reunion.
Composed of members Michael Bivins, Ricky Bell, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe and Ralph Tresvant, the outfit is credited as one of the biggest acts in R&B and the inspiration to a new generation of the genre.
On May 3, 2011 New Edition issued a press release on their official website announcing that all six members were reuniting as New Edition to kick off the 30th anniversary celebration of “Candy Girl” with their fans.
Since the kick off of the tour, the group has been touring around the world revisiting songs that made an entire generation dance and propelled the group to the top of the Billboard Charts in the 80’s and 90’s.
The show is expected to be a big success as the songs of “New Edition” were always popular with locals.
“I will be on a plane to Oahu to catch the show, I am not missing this for anything,” Maui resident Kristina Kerr told Hawaiiahe.com. “They were my idols and I still love their music, it will be a night to remember.”
Tickets are on sale at the Blaisdell Arena or by calling Ticketmaster. The event is presented by Capone Productions. Ticket prices begin at $45, $55, $75, $100 and $150. For VIP packages call Capone Productions at 306-2926.
