(HONOLULU) – Mayor Rick Blangiardi announced this morning that the Pride Flag will once again fly outside the Frank F. Fasi Municipal Building for the entire month of June, marking the beginning of World Pride Month.
This gesture underscores the city’s ongoing commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.
“Raising the Pride Flag throughout June is a testament to our city’s unwavering support for the LGBTQ+ community,” said Mayor Blangiardi. “It is a visible reminder of our dedication to equality and acceptance and a celebration of the rich diversity that strengthens our community. Let this flag inspire us to continue working towards a future where everyone is celebrated for their individuality.”
Additionally, Mayor Blangiardi has requested that Honolulu Hale be illuminated in the rainbow colors of the Pride flag from sundown on Sunday, June 23rd through sunrise on Saturday, June 29th.
World Pride Month, celebrated each June, commemorates the Stonewall riots, a pivotal series of protests by the gay community in New York City in 1969. Honolulu also celebrates Pride Month in October, aligning with National Coming Out Day (Oct. 11) and LGBT History Month.
