(HONOLULU) – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Transportation Services (DTS) will conduct an annual large-scale emergency training exercise for Skyline rail operations, involving multiple City first responder agencies, on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the Hālawa Aloha Stadium Skyline station.
The exercise will run from 7 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. and will follow the end of passenger service that day. Passenger service will resume at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22.
The emergency training exercise is a routine part of rail operations and will be similar to the training event that occurred in late 2022 at the Kualakaʻi East Kapolei Station.
Motorists, residents, and public transit riders should not be alarmed by the sight of multiple first-responder vehicles at the station, which will include TheBus, TheHandi-Van, Honolulu Fire Department (HFD), Honolulu Police Department (HPD), and Emergency Services Department (EMS) vehicles. DTS advises motorists and pedestrians to focus on the roadways during this event.
DTS advises the public that this is a first responder training exercise, and to NOT call 911 related to the event. Increased traffic congestion, noise and first responder activity are expected in the immediate area during the exercise. The training is closed to the general public. Drones will not be permitted in the exercise area.
Unlike the previous full-scale exercise, there will be no media availability.
