(Honolulu)– The Queen’s Health Systems announced today that The Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu campus will be opening and accepting patients on May 20, 2014.
“This is an exciting time for Queen’s, our state and most importantly the West O‘ahu community,” said Susan Murray, senior vice president of The Queen’s Health Systems, West O‘ahu Region, and chief operating officer of The Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu. “Since Queen’s acquired Hawaii Medical Center West, our team has been working diligently to ensure that we will be able to provide our patients with access to quality healthcare at a state-of-the-art facility without having to travel into Honolulu.”
Located on the former Hawaii Medical Center (HMC) West campus, Queen’s officially acquired HMC West from St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii on Dec. 14, 2012. The campus has been named The Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu.
Services will include those essential to a community hospital such as emergency room, inpatient and outpatient surgery, imaging, cardiology and specialty clinics. The hospital will have 80 beds upon opening and will increase up to 135 beds as volume increases.
The imaging center and specialty clinic have already opened and are accepting patients. Both are located in the Physician’s Office Building on the West O‘ahu campus.
The Queen’s Medical Center was founded in 1859 by Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV. The opening date of May 20 also coincides with the birthday of the King and Queen’s beloved son, Prince Albert.
