(LĪHU’E) – The Kaua’i Police Department is encouraging interested individuals to apply to become a police services officer.
“The Kaua‘i Police Department has worked diligently over the past two years to fill vacancies within our police force with talented and motivated individuals,” stated Police Chief Darryl D. Perry. “The duties of a police officer go far beyond law enforcement. Our mission is to partner with the community to create a safer environment for our families, children and visitors,”
A KPD police services officer performs a variety of law enforcement, crime prevention, investigative or other specialized duties. Those selected to be a part of a recruit class will participate in an intense training period, which is designed to teach each recruit the techniques and procedures of police work.
Candidates for employment must be at least 20 years of age at the time of filing the application, and at least 21 at the time of appointment.
All applicants will be required to pass a written and physical exam. Those who successfully complete both exams must then submit a personal history packet and will undergo a pre-employment psychological assessment and a background investigation. A polygraph test, interview and other testing will be conducted to determine suitability for employment
The position requires officers to work irregular hours, including shift and weekend work, and includes exposure to hazardous conditions.
