(Princeville) – County officials announced that the schedule for the new North Shore Shuttle pilot program can be accessed on the county’s website, www.kauai.gov. Hard copies are available at the Office of Economic Development and at the hotels where the shuttle stops.
The shuttle service offers residents and visitors an alternate from of transportation between north shore resorts and popular visitor destinations in the area.
The goal of the service is to reduce traffic on the North Shore and to enhance the visitor experience.
“The initial phase of the rollout of the North Shore Shuttle has allowed us to finalize the timing of the stops. Now we’re ready to move forward with the other phases,” said George Costa, director of the Office of Economic Development.
Last week, the shuttle’s second phase was implemented with service offered to the public from Princeville to Hanalei. The final phase will start on Monday, Nov. 10 with the Hanalei to Kç‘ç Beach route added to the schedule.
Experience Kaua‘i is running the daily shuttle service from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. using a 14-passenger van and a 15-passenger shuttle.
The vehicles can accommodate coolers, boogie boards, beach chairs and umbrellas for beach goers.
To create awareness and ridership, introductory fares of $2 each way for visitors and $1 each way for kama‘âina are being offered during the first few weeks of operation.
The North Shore Shuttle pilot project is a partnership between the County of Kaua‘i, Kaua‘i Economic Development Board, Princeville Development Reignwood Group, Kaua‘i Visitors Bureau, several Princeville-area resorts, Hanalei to Hâ‘ena Community Association and Experience Kaua‘i.
The project leaders are seeking sponsorships from north shore businesses in order to sustain the shuttle service following the six-month pilot period.
