(Waikiki)–Over 1,000 runners of all ages descended upon Kapiolani Park on Sunday morning to participate in the Mizuno/Val Nolasco Half Marathon.
With Diamond Head as an imposing and picturesque background setting for this race, runners came here to run 13.1 miles and leave every ounce of sweat in this positive community event.
The run began at Kapiolani Park and headed towards Kahala before turning around and heading back to the park, finishing at the Honolulu Marathon finish line.
While everyone that participated and finished this event were considered winners, 18-year-old Ku Kaahanui of Waialua was the greatest victor by winning the race in a time of 1:14:46 or a pace of 5:42 per mile.
The event also served as a training race for the upcoming Honolulu Marathon, event director Raul explained.
Hawaiiahe.com managing editor Melanie Gonzalez also participated in this event and triumphantly crossed the finished line in 1:55:38.
