(LĪHU‘E) – Kauai RSVP, part of the Agency on Elderly Affairs, will sponsor a collection drive for school supplies as part of the Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Day of Service. Supplies will be given to students in need at Kekaha Elementary School.
RSVP will only be accepting the following items, as requested by the school: wide-ruled composition tablets; #2 pencils; crayons; and washable markers.
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is a way to honor Dr. King’s memory than by serving others, particularly those most in need. The goal of the nationally-recognized Day of Service is to transform Dr. King’s life and teachings into community service that helps empower and strengthen local communities. As Dr. King himself said, “Life’s most urgent and persistent question is: What are you doing for others?”
Collection started December 29, 2014 and runs through January 19, 2015. Items can be dropped off Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Agency on Elderly Affairs/Kauai RSVP office located at the Līhu‘e Civic Center, 4444 Rice Street, Suite 330.
The collected items will be sorted into boxes by Kauai RSVP volunteers on January 20 and will be picked up by Kekaha Elementary School representative for distribution to their students. Please donate to this special cause and share this information with your friends and neighbors.
Please call Grace Domingo-Delos Reyes at 241-4479 or Celia Melchor-Questin, 241-4478, or email rsvp@kauai.org, for more information.
