(Kauai) – The Department of Water (DOW) has scheduled a water shutdown for customers in the Kukuiula area located on Ala Pualeikukui Street, Kaulu Street, Uluwehi Street, Mahua Street and Lau Nahele Street, on Tuesday, Aug. 11. Water will be turned off from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting, to allow the DOW’s contractor to conduct waterline improvements to the area’s water system.
Affected customers are advised to take the following steps:
- Store enough water to meet your needs during the shutdown.
- Notify family, friends and neighbors that may be affected by the shutdown.
- Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that water heaters do not empty during the shutdown.
- Drive with caution and allow extra travel time while proceeding through the area.
The DOW will provide a water buffalo for essential water needs during the scheduled shutdown. The water buffalo will be located at the corner of Ala Pualeikukui Street and Kaulu Street. Customers will need to bring their own water containers.
After the connection is completed and the water main is turned back on, air may be mixed into the water causing it to appear white or milky in color. This is normal and the air in the water will eventually dissipate.
The DOW will notify affected customers door to door, Monday. A Connect CTY message will also be sent to affected customers via phone call, text or email. To sign up for this service, visit www.kauai.gov or call the DOW at 245-5455.
The DOW apologizes for any inconvenience and thanks Kukuiula customers for their patience and cooperation while improvements are being made.
