(HONOLULU) — The Million Dollar Round Table Foundation (MDRT Foundation) has awarded a $3,000 grant to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii (RMHC-HI) to help the Judd Hillside Ronald McDonald House replace two of the three washer-dryer stacks in its laundry room, which is available to guest families free-of-charge.
The two aging appliances had reached the point where repairs were no longer working, and they were breaking down regularly and inconveniencing the families.
Representing the MDRT Foundation, Troy Wada, (CLU, LUTCF), presented this grant to RMHC-HI on August 14.
RMHC-HI President Jerri Chong expressed the organization’s gratitude. “The essence of what we do is to provide comfort, normalcy, and a home-like atmosphere for families with seriously ill children,” she said. “So our complimentary laundry room is a key element. It is important to the families, and it is in use 365 days a year. We are so grateful to the MDRT Foundation for their important support. It’s something that will be very meaningful to thousands of families over the next few years.”
Through its global grants, the MDRT Foundation is committed to building stronger families and communities around the globe. This year, the MDRT Foundation will award nearly $1 million in MDRT member-endorsed grants to more than 100 charitable organizations worldwide.
About Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii (RMHC-Hawaii) offers support for families with seriously ill children by operating two Ronald McDonald Houses in Manoa Valley. Families from the neighbor islands and around the Pacific may stay there when they come to Honolulu seeking medical care that is unavailable closer to home. Each year, hundreds of families make Ronald McDonald House their “home-away-from-home.”
RMHC-Hawaii also provides the Ronald McDonald House Family Room, a respite and support center at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children. At the Family Room, most of those assisted are from Oahu.
RMHC-Hawaii programs strengthen and support families during a very difficult time. For a child, having family members nearby to give love and comfort may be as crucial as medical care itself.
RMHC-Hawaii relies heavily on community support to keep the Houses running, not only through monetary donations, but also through countless hours of volunteers’ personal time.
