(Honolulu) – To celebrate its 40th anniversary, L & L Hawaiian Barbecue will be holding a celebration for the community on Thursday, April 7, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Ke`eaumoku Street (inside Walmart located at 710 Ke`eaumoku Street) location only. At this event, customers can purchase a plate lunch for the price of 40¢. The first 100 customers in line or those who donate 5 canned goods or more will receive a FREE limited edition 40th Anniversary t-shirt. The first 10 customers in line will receive a month supply of Pepsi. All proceeds collected from plate lunch sales will be donated to the Hawaii Foodbank. Customers may choose from the following L & L favorites: Kalua Pork with Cabbage, Chicken Katsu, and Hamburger Steak. Pepsi fountain drinks will also be offered at 10¢ each.
Forty years ago, an immigrant from Hong Kong named Eddie Flores, Jr. purchased the very first L & L on Liliha Street as a gift to his mom. By combining fresh meals cooked in-house with generous portions and reasonable prices, L & L became an instant success. From these humble beginnings, Eddie and his partner Johnson Kam would take the “plate lunch” to faraway places all over the world. Today, L & L has 187 locations throughout Hawaii, Alaska, California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Utah, Guam, New York, and Tennessee, as well as Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. Dreams come true.
L & L continues this dream of helping hard-working individuals with a passion for Hawai`i to realize their dreams of owning their very own restaurant, many of whom are immigrants just like Eddie and Johnson. Special guests at the April 7 event will be approximately 30 different L & L franchisees from around the world who have brought a little piece of our islands to places like Japan, Tennessee, Malaysia, and other parts of the world. “Perhaps what I treasure most with L & L is seeing employees, many of whom are immigrants who came to this country with nothing just like me, become franchisees who find tremendous success in their own business,” says Eddie. Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Bryan Andaya sums it up: “Whether you’re Kama`aina from Hawai`i, or a new immigrant from China, the Philippines, India, or Armenia; or even a Japanese or Malaysian national, L & L can make the American Dream take flight.”
The Hawaii Foodbank is the only nonprofit agency in the state of Hawaii that collects, warehouses and distributes mass quantities of both perishable and nonperishable food to 200 member agencies as well as food banks on the Big Island, Maui and Kauai.
