(Hilo)– On Sunday, November 4th, Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home will be assisting six veterans to attend the 23rdAnnual Veterans Appreciation Service held at Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, a Buddhist temple located in Hilo.
“To be able to help our seniors attend such an important service, it’s truly rewarding,” said Yukio Okutsu Administrator David R. Pettijohn. “The service honors all veterans, and is an extremely well deserved honor.”
This is the third year Yukio Okutsu has attended and participated in the service. The Veterans home will be assisting six resident veterans of Buddhist faith to be able to attend. All veterans, spouses, family, and friends, regardless of religious preference, are invited to participate, as the service embodies unity and diversity to honor and appreciate our servicemen and servicewomen and their families.
Featured speaker for the service is Dr. Peter Matsuura. Matsuura, a retired colonel, completed four deployments to Germany, Iraq and Afghanistan where he served with the U.S. Army’s surgical teams, treating orthopedic trauma and wounds attributed from war.
