(Maui)– Temporary closures are announced for youth centers and clubs and the Kaunoa Senior Services’ Congregate Nutrition Program and Leisure/Wellness Program, in Maui County.
The action follows last week’s announcement of the 30-day closure of County of Maui fields, pools, gyms and other facilities due to increased precautions regarding COVID-19 (coronavirus).
“These temporary closures are an effort to limit the spread of coronavirus in our community, especially among our most vulnerable populations,” Mayor Michael Victorino said. “The closures are also in line with CDC recommendations to avoid large groups of people. I ask the public to continue working with us as we take steps to flatten the curve of a potential outbreak.”
Closed youth programs include the Boys and Girls Clubs of Maui, Kihei Youth Center, the Paia Youth and Cultural Center, Hana Youth Center, Molokai Youth Center and Lanai Youth Center. Those facilities are closed for 30 days.
The Kaunoa senior programs will be closed and all classes and activities suspended countywide from March 17, 2020, to March 31, 2020.
Kaunoa’s Assisted Transportation and Home Delivered Meals Program will remain fully operational. Also, Kaunoa’s offices will remain open for normal business hours.
