(LIHU’E)– Kaua’i’s young athletes are invited to participate in a free soccer camp this weekend led by UH Woman’s head soccer coach Michele Nagamine and her coaching staff.
Sponsored by the Department of Parks and Recreation, the three-day camp offers a variety of college-level training including:
- Friday, June 8, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Workshop on “How to Apply for Athletic Scholarships” for athletes and parents, Kaua’i War Memorial Convention Hall
- Saturday, June 9, 9 to 11 a.m. Soccer clinic for athletes ages 7 to 10, Vidinha Stadium
- Saturday, June 9, 1 to 3 p.m. Soccer clinic for athletes ages 11 to 14, Vidinha Stadium
- Sunday, June 10, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Rating and critiquing session for college-bound athletes in grades 9 to 12, Vidinha Stadium
During the clinics, Nagamine and her staff will cover: attacking and defending concepts; advanced ball control drills; position specific tactics; and teamwork principles.
Participants should bring their own soccer ball, water, athletic shoes and shinguards to the clinic.
Although there is no charge to take part in these events, participants are asked to bring either two canned food items or a 10-pound bag of rice to assist the Kaua’i Independent Food Bank with their efforts to feed Kaua’i’s hungry.
