(Maui)– After a two-week break, the County will resume its weekly Lahaina Disaster Recovery Community Update Meetings on Wednesday, February 21 with two key topics featured: updates on the Permanent Disposal Site community survey and cesspool information. The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. at the Lahaina Civic Center and livestreamed on the County of Maui Facebook page.
The County will share the input received by the public over a 16-day period from a community survey that sought public input into locations under consideration for a final disposal site for the estimated 400,000 tons of ash and debris removed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from Lahaina. Over 2,300 residents completed the survey conducted by the County.
A representative from the State’s Department of Health will also be presenting information updates on cesspools and an initiative on a health study in partnership with the University of Hawaii.
