(HONOLULU) – Mayor Rick Blangiardi announced today that Honolulu Hale will be illuminated in teal from sunset on April 22, 2024, to sunrise on April 27, 2024, commemorating Sex Assault Awareness Month in Hawai‘i.
In partnership with The Sex Abuse Treatment Center (SATC), a program of Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women and Children, this symbolic gesture underscores the city’s commitment to raising awareness, supporting survivors, and fostering a culture of prevention and intervention against sexual violence. Teal, the official color of sexual assault awareness, will blanket Honolulu Hale, serving as a beacon of hope and solidarity for those affected by these pervasive crimes.
“In lighting Honolulu Hale in teal, we stand in solidarity with survivors and reaffirm our unwavering dedication to ending sexual violence in our community,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “Through collective action, education, and support services, we strive to create a safer, more inclusive environment where everyone can thrive without fear of harm.”
The SATC served over a thousand new sex assault clients last year, 47% of which were children. Sexual Assault Awareness Month presents an opportunity for individuals and organizations across the state to come together, raise awareness, and advocate for change.
