Since 1940, the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation’s Nā Hula Festival has celebrated the artistry of Hawai‘i’s premiere dance form – hula. The festival is Hawai‘i’s longest-running, annual, non-competitive hula event.
Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, when large, in-person events were restricted due to health concerns, the festival continued virtually through the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation’s social media feeds and YouTube Channel: bit.ly/DPRyoutube
There, you can still experience the recorded performances from the 80th Nā Hula Festival, including stunning displays from island halau and an ensemble from the Royal Hawaiian Band. As a nod to the history of this long-standing traditional of hula, Honolulu Parks and Recreation also posted performances from several halau filmed during the 2014 Nā Hula Festival. You can watch it all at your convenience by accessing the special Nā Hula playlist here, or visiting the above-mentioned YouTube Channel. For more information, visit: bit.ly/NaHulaFest
