(HONOLULU) – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Transportation Services (DTS) announced Monday that Skyline passenger service will shut down for two consecutive weekends later this month as part of the unification process between the testing segment, and our current operating segment of Skyline operations.
There will be no Skyline service on:
- Saturday, January 11
- Sunday, January 12
- Saturday, January 18
- Sunday, January 19
All Skyline stations currently in operation will be closed to the public during these weekends.
The closure is necessary to accommodate critical testing procedures for Skyline’s second operating segment. The second operating segment, which consists of 5.2 miles of rail guideway from the Aloha Stadium Station to the Middle Street Transit Center, is currently being tested in advance of an anticipated public opening by the end of 2025.
Segment 2 of Skyline will add the following stations to the existing system:
- Makalapa Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam
- Lelepaua Daniel K. Inouye International Airport
- Ahua Lagoon Drive
- Kahauiki Middle Street Transit Center
Skyline will reopen with regular weekday operations on Monday, January 13th, at 5:00 a.m., and on Monday, January 20th, at 8:00 a.m. January 20th 2025 is on City Holiday schedule, due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.
For weekend Skyline riders affected by these planned closures, alternative TheBus service is available between the following stations:
- Kualakaʻi East Kapolei and Keoneʻae UH West Oʻahu Skyline Station:
- Routes C, 46, 416, 461
- Keoneʻae UH West Oʻahu and Hōʻaeʻae West Loch Station:
- Route 40
- Hōʻaeʻae West Loch and Pouhala Waipahu Transit Center Station:
- Routes 40, 42, E, W1
- Pouhala Waipahu Transit Center and Waiawa Pearl Highlands Station:
- Routes 40, 42
- Waiawa Pearl Highlands to Kalauao Pearlridge Station:
- Routes 40, 42, 51
- Kalauao Pearlridge to Hālawa Aloha Stadium Station:
- Routes A, 32, 40, 42, 51, A
Waiawa Pearl Highlands Skyline Station will have normal weekend TheBus service including Routes 531, 532, 533, and 535, so riders can access Pearl Highlands Center and the surrounding neighborhood.
There is no connecting TheBus service at Honouliuli Hoʻopili and Hālaulani Leeward Community College Skyline Stations.
Station operators will be each station to help riders with connections to TheBus routes and wayfinding.
“We know our riders depend on the availability and reliability of our Skyline service, however, this is an important milestone for Skyline. This shutdown will allow us to connect our currently operating tracks and stations to our newest segment of five miles and four stations to Kalihi, including Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and the airport. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we deliver more and better Skyline operations in 2025,” said Deputy Director Jon Nouchi.
