(Honolulu)– The Honolulu Zoo on Thursday announced the inaugural launch of its new mobile app — animals, plants, and people! — designed to provide an interactive and seamless experience for all zoo users. The new app was made possible by the Honolulu Zoo’s partner organizations, SSA Group and the Honolulu Zoo Society, and the app boasts an array of innovative features to help residents and visitors maximize their visits to the zoo.
In addition to wayfinding via an interactive map and countless animal fun facts, the new mobile app will reveal special offers, discounts and events, including a new series of “Keeper Chats” scheduled at the Honolulu Zoo that will be available for app users. The chats — designed by the zoo’s animal keepers — relay educational and captivating stories on their training, feeding and enrichment work with the animals.
The Honolulu Zoo already offers popular daily elephant and sloth chats, and the zoo’s new mobile app now displays a daily schedule of chats and feedings featuring a variety of animals, including black rhinos, toucans, cheetahs, Japanese giant salamanders, porcupines and giraffes.
The zoo’s new mobile app is now available for free download on iOS and Android devices.
“Having a new mobile app for the Honolulu Zoo is a significant step forward in our modernization efforts,” said Linda Santos, zoo director. “We extend a huge mahalo to both the SSA Group and Honolulu Zoo Society for the sponsoring and licensing of the app to help elevate zoo safety and guest experience, allowing visitors to easily navigate and locate their favorite animal, plan their route, find refreshments, gift shop, restrooms, exits, and emergency contact information — all from the palm of their hand.”
Key Features of the new Honolulu Zoo App:
- GPS-Enabled Interactive Map – Navigate the zoo.
- Personalized Itinerary Planning – Plan your visit by selecting must-see attractions and experiences.
- Animal Profiles and Conservation Efforts – Learn about Honolulu Zoo’s diverse species and conservation programs.
