(HONOLULU) – The Honolulu Ocean Safety Department proudly welcomed 14 new lifeguards into its ranks on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, during a graduation ceremony held at the Bird of Paradise Restaurant at the Hawai‘i Prince Golf Course.
Family members, friends, and colleagues gathered to celebrate this newest class of Ocean Safety professionals — a group that represents the next generation of guardians who will help protect O‘ahu’s beaches and residents.
The graduates successfully completed an intensive eight-week training program designed to test their endurance, strength, and decision-making under pressure. The course prepares recruits for the realities of Hawai‘i’s demanding ocean conditions — from pounding surf to swift currents — ensuring they are ready to protect beachgoers across O‘ahu’s coastlines.
“Ocean Safety lifeguards represent the very best of who we are as an island community,” said Ocean Safety Chief Kurt Lager. “They are not only first responders — they are protectors of our way of life. Through their courage, discipline, and aloha, these new lifeguards have earned their place among one of the most elite ocean safety teams in the world.”
