(Honolulu)– The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will be closing a portion of Mauna Lahilahi Beach Park in Mākaha from Friday, February 6 at 10 p.m. until Friday, February 20 at 5 a.m. for cleanup and maintenance of the area. Signage and fencing will be posted indicating the specific closure area, which includes an approximately one-third mile stretch of shoreline from the Mākaha Surfside Apartments to just past Orange Street.
The two-week closure is coordinated in conjunction with a Stored Property Ordinance enforcement conducted by City crews, followed by a volunteer cleanup led by Councilmember Andria Tupola, her office, and Mālama Rising.
The volunteer cleanup of this shoreline is scheduled for Saturday, February 7 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Please wear covered-toe shoes, heavy-duty gloves, hat, and sun protection. If can, register ahead of time with Councilmember Tupola’s office by emailing councildistrict1@honolulu.gov or calling (808) 861-2208. Mahalo in advance for your kokua!

Park users may walk through the closed area of Mauna Lahilahi Beach Park to access the ocean during this partial park closure. We advise motorists to please drive safely and stay alert while traveling along Farrington Highway near the beach park. Although no road closures are planned, increased activity from volunteers and City workers is expected. Please drive cautiously, watch for pedestrians, and obey all posted signs. We appreciate the patience and understanding of the Leeward community while this portion of the park is closed for this City and community cleanup effort.
