(HONOLULU) — The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Environmental Services (ENV) is launching a limited recruitment for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainees, with applications accepted March 1 through March 3 only and capped at 200 applicants.
Honolulu residents seeking a stable, well-paying public service career are encouraged to apply during this three-day recruitment period. Starting pay is over $58,000 annually, with comprehensive health coverage, retirement benefits, paid vacation and sick leave. Trainees can advance through the operator career ladder – with Operator IV positions currently earning approximately $83,000 annually.
Wastewater treatment plant operators play a critical role in protecting public health and preserving Oʻahu’s environment by ensuring wastewater is safely treated. These positions support essential island infrastructure that safeguards water quality and community health.
“This is more than just a job, this is a stable career serving our community,” ENV Director Roger Babcock said. “We are looking for motivated individuals who want to build a long-term future with the City.”
The trainee program provides hands-on training with no prior experience required. Candidates must meet minimum job qualifications listed in the official job posting, which include a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license.
Due to anticipated high interest, the recruitment will close after 200 applications are received, or at the end of the three-day period, whichever comes first. Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to apply immediately.
