(HONOLULU) – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Environmental Services (ENV) has reopened the Kawailoa Transfer Station at 62-180 Kawailoa Drive in Haleʻiwa to the public as of Friday, March 6, 2026, following the successful installation of a new crane at the facility’s loadout area
The temporary closure allowed crews to safely install and replace the crane located next to the public loadout area where residents dispose of refuse. The crane is used to move and compact waste and will improve operational efficiency at the transfer station.
The installation marks the third and final crane added as part of ENV’s Kapaʻa and Kawailoa Transfer Station Crane Replacement Project. Two cranes were previously installed at the Kapaʻa Transfer Station in November 2025.
Residents may now resume normal use of the Kawailoa Transfer Station. A full list of locations and hours, as well as live camera views of traffic lines at select facilities, are available at: https://www.honolulu.gov/env/ref/waste-drop-off-locations/
ENV appreciates the public’s patience during the closure as these upgrades help strengthen long-term service and reliability for the community.
