(Kaua’i )– Starting Monday, Sept. 17, the Hawai’i National Guard’s 93rd Civil Support Team (CST) will conduct its annual weeklong training on Kaua’i. The training will be done in partnership with the Kaua’i Civil Defense Agency, Kaua’i Fire Department, Kaua’i Police Department and other county, state, federal and private sector entities.
Drills and seminars simulating the use of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) along with chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear weapons will take place at various venues including:
- Kaua’i County Emergency Operations Center
- Ka‘iakea fire station
- Kaua’i Police Department range
- Hanapçpç National Guard armory
- Kapa‘a National Guard Amory
- Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
A full-scale exercise will be conducted on Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Kapa‘a National Guard Armory on Kahau Street in Kapa‘a.
Officials are asking for the public’s cooperation by staying clear of any obvious or marked training and exercise areas to allow participants to conduct the exercise without interruptions.
The aim of the exercise is to ensure that Kaua’i’s first responders will be better prepared not only for WMD events, but also for a broad spectrum of natural and man-made events. The skills learned during the training can also be applied to hazardous materials incidents and/or events that require multi-agency, multi-discipline coordination and interoperable communications.
