(Maui) – To honor and celebrate the generous spirit of volunteerism, the County of Maui, Volunteer Center is presenting the 5th annual Volunteer Expo 2012 on Saturday, October 27, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center main stage.
“This is a great way to showcase these twenty-five exhibitors to the community. The world of non profits is what helps make Maui No Ka Oi,” said Wendy Stebbins, County of Maui Volunteer Coordinator.
Entertainment includes:
- Zumba instructor Keoni Manuel
- Ukulele virtuoso Derick Sebastian
- Maui Academy of Performing Arts
- Seabury Hall Hawaiian Ensemble.
- Emcee Charly Espina Takahama, host of KISS 99.9 FM radio will give away door prizes, including a free trip on Mokulele Airlines or a room at the Grand Wailea Resort.
Members of the public are also encouraged to check out exhibits, play games and chat with the 25 non-profit agencies that signed up to be expo vendors. They include:
- HandsOn Maui featuring the Auwahi Wind project, solar energy pedometer game
- The Maui Marine Sanctuary Volunteer Council, joined by Hawaiian National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, which will host their version of the game “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?”
- Hale Makua, which will help people make paper flowers so they can write a message to Hale Makua residents.
- The Coral Reef Alliance and Kaanapali Makai Watch will help keiki to identify fish at their activity table.
- The Hailiimaile Community Garden will show how their plans to build a community through sustainable food production.
- Other vendors include the Maui Historical Society, Bailey House Museum and many more.
The Volunteer Expo is sponsored by the County of Maui. Department of Housing and Human Concerns, Volunteer Center, Tri-Isle RC&D, Inc. Mokulele Airlines, Grand Wailea Resort; Auwahi Wind Project, Sempra U.S. Gas and Power and the Queen Kaahumanu Center.
