(Honolulu) – The Hawaiian Humane Society is reaching out to Oahu’s communities by taking dogs, cats and rabbits on the road with “Adopt a Pet” events around the island.
The Humane Society’s latest partnership is with Enchanted Lakes Pet Center in Kailua. The shop has agreed to stop selling pets for profit and is now making the Humane Society’s cats available for adoption daily.
The Hawaiian Humane Society also makes cats available daily at Petco’s Hawaii Kai and Kapolei locations. Dogs are also available there on the weekends, as well as at Petco Kaneohe.
In addition, the Humane Society also holds regular adoption events at Schofield Barracks PX and Mike McKenna’s Windward Ford. The next event at Schofield is on November 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The next event at Mike McKenna’s Windward Ford is on November 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with Santa and Mrs. Paws also onsite for holiday photos with your pets. Since December 2010, Mike McKenna’s Windward Ford has helped find homes for more than 100 pets at these Pet Adoption Events. Under the leadership of philanthropist Mike McKenna, this partnership is about giving back to the community by driving promotions for pet adoptions and fundraising for their favorite pet charity.
All animals available for adoption include a host of benefits and services valued at more than $250. These include behavior screening, spaying and neutering, health exam, vaccinations, worming, flea and tick control, microchip identification and heartworm testing and preventative for dogs. All adoptions also include two weeks of post adoption medical support, as well as lifetime behavior support.
More Information:
On Oahu, the Hawaiian Humane Society is the only animal welfare organization that shelters, rescues, adopts and welcomes animals all day, and every day. We protect animals from abuse, find families for homeless pets, and teach children about compassion for animals. As an independent nonprofit that receives no funding from other mainland animal welfare organizations such as HSUS and ASPCA, 100% of donations stays in the islands for the benefit of Hawaii’s animals and people.
