(Honolulu)– Halloween is an exciting and fun time for kids of all ages. Here are safety tips to help make Halloween enjoyable and safe for everyone.
Children and Parents
- Go trick-or-treating in a familiar neighborhood.
- Have a pre-planned route that avoids dark or hazardous areas.
- Young children should be accompanied by an adult or a responsible teenager. Older children should stay in groups.
- Use a bright flashlight to light the walk paths and let drivers see you.
- Only visit homes that have the outside light on.
- Never enter the home or car of a stranger—even if they invite you in to get a treat.
- Do not eat any treats until you get home and an adult has inspected them.
- Call 911 if a treat looks suspicious or has been tampered with.
Costume Advice
- Wear light colored costumes that reflect light. Add reflective tape to increase visibility.
- Cut large eye holes in masks to maximize viewing or wear stage make-up instead.
- Choose a flame-resistant costume, and shorten long costumes to avoid tripping.
- Don’t carry sharp or pointed objects as props.
- Wear comfortable, low heel shoes that fit properly. Avoid high heels or improper fitting footwear.
Drivers Beware
